gsm-utils software package provides GSM mobile phone access applications, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gsm-utils
gsm-utils is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gsm-utils package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gsm-utils *
You will get with gsm-utils package name, version, architecture and description in a table
